Personal Statement

Hi there, my name is David Ramos, Jr. but everyone calls me DJ.  I am a senior at DePaul College Prep, formerly known as Gordon Tech High School in Chicago.  I am proud of my accomplishments and I am happy to introduce myself to you as a future Hall of Famer.

I am currently seeking a college in which I can further my academic education while fulfilling my sports dreams.  Baseball has been my passion since I was 2 years old when my parents put a baseball in my hands for the first time.  Since then, I have played on various teams including my Elementary school, our City Park District, Traveling League and current High School team, To further develop my skills, I also spent a summer at the Cal Ripken Baseball camp in Maryland.

Although baseball is my main focus, I am an all-around athlete.  I have been on our high school varsity bowling and soccer teams for my entire high school career, in which I am currently a Soccer Captain and Bowling Captain.  I have been able to multi-task my sports life with my academics, while still being active as a student leader at my school.  I have participated as a Student Ambassador and Mentor.  I act as a student assistant in the Dean's office and as a student secretary in the Attendance Office, as well.

I have demonstrated my leadership skills in school and have continued outside of campus by volunteering as a Camp Counselor for the Park district for 5 years. I have given back to my community by donating my time as Umpire and Assistant Coach for the Little Leagues in my area, I have assisted at various events, i.e. Movies in Park for the City of Chicago, Midnight Circus in the Park for the City of Chicago, the Mayor's Clean and Green, and at the Illinois Secretary of State's Mobile Unit.  I have also participated with my local elected officials by assisting in elections and marching in various local parades.

I have been raised with the philosophy of working hard, giving back to the community and to never give up and I accept leadership roles with dignity and pride and have the utmost respect for my mentors, leaders and teammates.  I work well with others and  I believe in teamwork, sportsmanship, professionalism and excellence.

I look forward to bringing back a World Series Championship ring back one day to my future college.
